ART 139Special Topics in Painting
Special studies in painting as announced. A foundation in drawing is recommended.
Prerequisites
Prerequisite(s): One from ART 20J, ART 130, ART 133, ART 137, ART 138; and two non-painting lower-division studios from ART 15, ART 20G, ART 20H, ART 20I, ART 20K, ART 20L, ART 26. Enrollment is restricted to art majors.
- Collage, Appropriation, and Juxtaposition- In this special topics class we will explore the idea and practice of collage in relation to historical and contemporary painting practices, the conceptual potential of juxtaposition, and the ethics and debates of using/appropriating pre-existing imaged based source material. Alongside these larger questions students will further develop their formal and technical skills through the practice of painting and short readings and discussions.
