BIOE 146Sensory Ecology
Explores the sensory lives of various taxa (mammals, birds, amphibians) across different environmental landscapes. This knowledge is then applied to evaluate how animals communicate crucial biological information to one another during different life-history events, including breeding, parental care, finding food, and predator avoidance. This course aims to explore the fundamental principles and mechanisms underlying sensory perception in animals. Students gain a comprehensive understanding of how animals detect, process, and respond to various environmental stimuli through specialized sensory systems. (Formerly Acoustic Ecology.)
Prerequisite(s): BIOL 20A, and BIOE 20B, and BIOE 20C. PHYS 6A/PHYS 6L or PHYS 7A/PHYS 6L or PHYS 1 recommended.
