BIOL 104LIntroduction to Bioinformatics Lab
Covers the fundamentals of bioinformatics and how to identify a computational solution or tool for a biological question. Studies how large biological data sets are generated, processed, analyzed, and how to generate questions to ask when working collaboratively with a trained bioinformatics colleague. Students gain experience using online and software-based bioinformatic tools and the use of protein modeling software to design testable hypotheses. (Formerly Coronavirus Bioinformatics Lab.)
Prerequisites: BME 105 or BIOL 105; and BIOC 100A and 100B or BIOL 100; and BIOL 20L or BIOL 101L. It is assumed that students have minimal level exposure to bioinformatic/sequence analysis tools prior to this course. Enrollment is restricted to molecular, cell and developmental biology B.S., others by permission of instructor. Students cannot enroll in BIOL 104L after receiving credit with a ''C' or better in BME 110.
