BIOL 105ACUREs: CRISPR Lab I
Investigates CRISPR-Cas technology and its impact on immunology. Students explore molecular mechanisms of CRISPR-Cas, use in engineering immune cells for therapy, and ethical implications. Covers immunology, genomics, and CRISPR targeting for gene function studies in immune cells. Students learn computational biology research relevant to their own project, which will target a novel gene using CRISPR to determine its role in immune responses. This course lays the theoretical foundation and initiates the experimental lab work which will be expanded in BIOL105B. Prerequisite(s): BIOL 20L and BIOL 105. Enrollment is restricted to sophomore, junior, and senior MCDB B.S., BIOL B.S., and BIOC B.S. majors. Enrollment is by instructor permission; interested students should add to the waitlist. Application is required. Inquire with instructor. Students are billed a materials fee of $150. (Formerly CRISPR Laboratory I.)
