Prepares students for BIOL 105, Introduction to Genetics. Core concepts in Mendelian and molecular genetics aree covered. These include mitosis, meiosis, the chromosome theory of inheritance, complementation, pedigree analysis, replication, and fundamental concepts in molecular biology.

Prerequisites

Prerequisite(s): BIOL 20A.

  • From the Instructors: This online summer course is designed to prepare students for BIOL 105 Introduction to Genetics in the fall. First time genetics students often struggle with integrating and applying the material they learn into solving genetics-based problems. This course is designed to introduce students to the core concepts in Mendelian and molecular genetics, such as mitosis, meiosis, the chromosome theory of inheritance, complementation, pedigree analysis, replication, and fundamental concepts in molecular biology. Additionally, the course will both cover strategies and provide opportunities for students to practice problem-solving and critical thinking skills that will promote their success in BIOL 105 in the fall.
