ECE 80JRenewable Energy Sources, Storage, and Smart Grids
Introduces energy sources and storage with special emphasis on renewables as part of smart grids. Fundamental energy-conversion limits based on physics and existing source properties are studied. Various sources, such as solar, wind, hydropower, geothermal, tidal energy, and fuel cells are described. Electric vehicles, sustainable microgrids, and the integration to smart grids are studied. Finally, smart meters, demand response, the energy market, and policy are covered. Students cannot receive credit for this course and ECE 81J. (Formerly EE 80J.)
