FILM 194SSpecial Topics Seminar
Intensive research and writing on a changing topic chosen to demonstrate critical mastery in a specific area of film and digital media studies, for example, film adaptations and their literary sources, documentary/reality shows, or networked new media texts.
Prerequisite(s): FILM 120. Enrollment restricted to senior film and digital media majors.
- COURSE TOPIC: FUTURE WORLDS: SCI-FI X SPECULATIVE FICION - This course explores speculative fiction and future worlds with a focus on Indigenous Futurism, Afrofuturism, Chicanx Futurism, and mainstream science fiction. Considering intersecting theories on technoculture, colonization, race, gender and sexuality, students will create media, video, podcasts, animation and graphics of future speculative worlds. The course analyzes imaginary futures through the lens of anthropocenic crises/anxieties, emancipatory politics, and decolonial possibilities.
