• Class Topic: This course examines twenty-first-century Latine/x poetry, with a specific focus on “experimental” and “innovative” poetics that incorporate visual, performance, and digital elements. Through the study of poetry collections, individual poems, performances, and poetry criticism, we will discuss: What distinguishes this contemporary poetry as Latine/x? How should we identify and interpret “experimental” Latine/x poetry? How is this poetry redefining how Latine/x communities are represented? What kinds of social and political topics does Latine/x poetry address?
