STAT 17Statistical Methods for Business and Economics

Introduction to statistical methods as practiced in business and economics. Topics include descriptive methods, probability, random variables, expected values, sampling, estimation, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, one- and two-sample problems, power and sample size calculations, correlation, and simple linear regression.

Prerequisites

Prerequisite(s): Mathematics placement (MP) score of 300 or higher or completion of AM 3 or AM 11A or ECON 11A or MATH 3 or MATH 11A or MATH 16A or MATH 19A or MATH 20A. Concurrent enrollment in STAT 17L is required.

  • Enroll in lecture and associated discussion section.
  • Concurrent enrollment in STAT 17L is required. Students must enroll into STAT 17L before they can enroll into STAT 17. If you are unable to get a seat in STAT 17L, you are ineligible to enroll or request enrollment into STAT 17 lecture. Permission codes will not be granted to override this concurrent enrollment or to increase the capacity of STAT 17L.
