Social and artistic movements have created strategies which can envision futures beyond the horizon of the imagination of capitalism. In this class students study the fields of virtual environmental art, climate fiction, ecofeminist art, queer and trans ecologies, Afrofuturism, Latinx futurism and Indigenous futurism, and create digital art relevant to these fields such as games, electronic literature, and interactive films, to envision futures of climate justice.

Prerequisites

Prerequisite(s): ARTG 80H, and ARTG 80I or THEA 10 or THEA 20.

  • ENROLLMENT: Enrollment is restricted to juniors and seniors who are proposed or declared majors or minors in ART, AGPM, CT, CRES, HAVC, FDM, MUSC, or THEA/Dance. Pre-declared minors in these programs or other Arts Division or CRES students may request an enrollment permission number from the instructor: michacardenas@ucsc.edu.
